An Oklahoma Centennial Ranch award has been presented to Wade Hampton, the owner of a ranch in Adair County. The announcement was made by Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan.

Hampton Ranch, located near Westville, has been in the family since 1914 when it was settled by John Morris, Wade Hampton’s great-grandfather. The family has maintained cattle and horse operations on the land for over a century.

To receive a Centennial Farm or Ranch Award, properties must be occupied by a family member for at least 100 years and either currently operated or leased out by a family member. Additionally, the property must consist of at least 40 acres and have gross annual sales of no less than $1,000. The awards have been sponsored for 36 years by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. In this period, three awards have been granted in Adair County.
