James Michael Young, Jr., a 43-year-old resident of Bunch, Oklahoma, was sentenced to two years of probation for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition, according to an April 9 announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address illegal firearm possession by individuals with prior felony convictions. Such prosecutions are part of broader initiatives aimed at reducing gun-related offenses and enhancing public safety.
Young pleaded guilty on October 1, 2025, in federal district court to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. Investigators reported that Young knowingly possessed 244 firearms and 40 rounds of ammunition on October 29, 2024. At the time, he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The sentencing hearing was overseen by Senior Judge Ronald A. White in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
