The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) is set to open a new exhibition titled “Discovering Ansel Adams” on Saturday, June 7. The exhibition, which will run until September 28, is presented by Kirsten and David Griffin and organized by the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona with support from The Museum Box.
The exhibition features 124 works by Ansel Adams spanning seven decades, including ten portraits of him by other artists. Visitors will also find archival materials such as Adams’s compass and exposure meters, letters, and magazines.
Michael Anderson, PhD, President and CEO of OKCMOA, stated: “Ansel Adams has long been an audience favorite at OKCMOA, appealing to a broad cross-section of the public that includes not only those that have fallen under the spell of his iconic photographs but also visitors with a passion for the environment and our country’s national park system.”
Anderson added that “Discovering Ansel Adams” is a must-see for both those familiar with Adams’s work and newcomers. The exhibition offers interactive elements like a facsimile of an early photo album assembled by Adams. These components aim to narrate how his early experiences with photography and national parks influenced his career.
In addition to the exhibit itself, there will be an extensive programming schedule featuring classes and tours. Early registration is recommended as programs are expected to sell out. Details can be found on okcmoa.com.
Museum members benefit from free entry to “Discovering Ansel Adams” along with discounts on associated programming. More information about membership can be accessed at okcmoa.com/membership.
