Jacob Layton Earley, a 22-year-old resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition while being legally prohibited from doing so. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the sentencing.
The case followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Earley pleaded guilty to the charge on March 18, 2025. According to authorities, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Earley’s home on December 21, 2022. During the search, they found a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic rifle chambered in 5.56x45mm with a magazine containing 28 rounds of .223 REM caliber ammunition, as well as an additional 100 rounds of .223 REM caliber ammunition in his bedroom.
At the time of the incident, Earley was under a protection order issued by the Chickasaw Nation District Court. The order barred him from owning or possessing firearms or attempting to obtain them.
Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the sentencing hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Earley will remain in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a designated facility within the United States Bureau of Prisons to serve his sentence, which does not allow for parole.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis M. Reagan represented the government in this case.
