A Broken Arrow man, Danny Lawrence Newton, was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for attempted receipt of child pornography, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. Newton, age 43, will also serve 15 years of supervised release after his imprisonment and must register as a sex offender.
Court records show that in June 2024, Newton contacted someone on social media whom he believed to be a 14-year-old. During their online conversation, Newton requested photos from the minor and discussed sexual activity. He later arranged to meet the individual in person and drove to the provided address, where law enforcement officers detained him.
Newton remains in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Robert and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with police departments from Skiatook, Pryor, and Tulsa. The investigation was part of Operation Clean Sweep II in partnership with the Tornado Alley Child Exploitation and Trafficking Task Force. This task force focuses on holding child predators accountable throughout the Northern District of Oklahoma.
“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
