An Oklahoma Centennial Farm award has been granted to the owners of a farm in Caddo County, as announced by Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan. The recipients, Larry and Gala Johnston, own the Johnston Farm near Lookeba. This farm has been under family ownership since 1912 when it was settled by William Schimmel.

The Centennial Farm or Ranch Award requires that a property be occupied by a family member for at least 100 years. Additionally, it must currently be operated or occupied by a family member or leased out by one. The property should also include at least 40 acres and have gross annual sales of $1,000 or more.

This program is sponsored by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Over its 36-year history, 37 awards have been presented in Caddo County.
