Henry Tyler Allen, a 35-year-old resident of Durant, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 77 months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charge stemmed from investigations conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Durant Police Department. Allen pleaded guilty to the charge on January 7, 2025. According to investigators, he was found in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol on September 24, 2024, despite having a prior conviction for a crime punishable by more than one year of imprisonment.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that unites various levels of law enforcement and communities to combat violent crime and gun violence. The program aims to enhance neighborhood safety through trust-building and strategic enforcement priorities. On May 26, 2021, the department introduced a strategy focused on reducing violent crime by reinforcing PSN’s core principles: fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
The sentencing hearing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Allen will remain under the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Gross represented the United States in this case.
