The Fort Towson Historic Site is organizing a “Dutch Oven Gathering” on Saturday, August 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is open to the public at no cost and invites both participants and guests to attend.

Local cooks specializing in cast iron will set up outdoor kitchens at the historic site, where they will prepare food and demonstrate their Dutch oven cooking techniques. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch each step of the process, from lighting fires or charcoal to managing heat and preparing dishes. Each cook brings their own style and preferred tools. At noon, samples of the prepared dishes will be available for tasting.

The event aims to bring together Dutch oven enthusiasts for fellowship and skill sharing while introducing outdoor cooking in cast iron to a wider audience. Registration is required for those who plan to cook, while guests are welcome without registration.

These gatherings take place quarterly at the Fort Towson Historic Site. Organizers encourage interested cooks to register so they can receive updates about future events. For more information or to register as a cook, individuals can call 580-873-2634 or email [email protected]. The site is located at 896 N. 4375 Rd., Fort Towson.

Fort Towson Historic Site operates as part of the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS).
