Hugo resident pleads guilty to firearm possession charge

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that James Eric Diggs, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition. This offense carries a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the indictment, Diggs was charged with knowingly possessing a semi-automatic pistol and 17 rounds of ammunition on February 5, 2025. This occurred after he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The charge is the result of an investigation conducted by the Hugo Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted the plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. He ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed.

A U.S. District Court Judge will determine Diggs’ sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Diggs has been allowed to remain free on bond under certain conditions while awaiting sentencing.
