An Oklahoma Centennial Farm award has been granted to the owners of a farm in Kingfisher County, as announced by Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan. The recipients of this recognition are Laura June Cerny and Jason and Laurie Boarts, who own Grandma’s Place North near Dover.
The family has maintained agricultural activities on the land since 1920 when great-great-grandfather E.P. Terrell originally settled it. They have cultivated vegetables and rye while also raising cattle, pigs, chickens, and goats.
Eligibility for a Centennial Farm or Ranch Award requires that the property has been occupied by a family member for at least 100 years. It must also be currently operated or occupied by a family member or leased out by one. The land should cover a minimum of 40 acres with gross annual sales reaching at least $1,000.
The Centennial Farm & Ranch Awards program is sponsored by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Over its 36-year history, 184 awards have been distributed in Kingfisher County.
