Muskogee resident pleads guilty to attempted arson in Indian Country

Muskogee, Oklahoma – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that Johnny Lee Vann, 48, has pleaded guilty to one count of attempted arson in Indian Country. This charge carries a potential sentence of up to life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

The indictment against Vann alleges that he maliciously attempted to set fire to a dwelling, endangering lives on January 4, 2025. The incident took place in Muskogee County, within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Reservation in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Vann’s plea and has ordered a presentence investigation report. A U.S. District Court Judge will later determine the sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Vann is currently held by the United States Marshals Service awaiting sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Gross and Dak T. Cohen.
