Highlights from the Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s meeting on July 7 include the approval of the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Work Plan, updates on emergency repairs to the US-70 Roosevelt bridge causeway over Lake Texoma, and the introduction of a new District 1 Commissioner.

The commissioners approved an update to the CIRB Construction Work Plan for Fiscal Years 2026 through 2030. This plan allocates nearly $930 million for 230 off-system county bridge projects and addresses 422 miles of county roads over five years. The CIRB utilizes state funding administered by ODOT along with federal, local, and tribal funds for priority transportation projects. “The CIRB work plan gives county commissioners across Oklahoma the opportunity to really tackle some bigger projects that they would never be able to touch without this revenue commitment,” said Tim Gatz, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Gatz provided an update on emergency repair work along the US-70 Roosevelt bridge causeway over Lake Texoma in southeast Oklahoma. Commissioners approved a $500,000 project timeline incentive to BridgeCo Contractors for completing repairs ahead of July 4, 2025. The contract is valued at nearly $5.5 million due to severe weather damage in May. Plans to replace the Roosevelt bridge and causeway are expected to start in 2026.

Ronnie Boswell was welcomed as the newly appointed District 1 Commissioner. Boswell is a native Oklahoman with experience in various industries such as car sales, real estate, and LED advertising. He will represent eight district counties in Eastern Oklahoma.

The nine-member Oklahoma Transportation Commission oversees state transportation development and awards contracts monthly for road and bridge construction. Commissioners awarded more than $102 million in contracts to improve interstates, highways, and bridges statewide.

The next commission meeting is scheduled for August 4 at 11 a.m., available live via Ustream with past meetings accessible on YouTube and Vimeo.
