Deshane Ganarro Jefferson, 35, from Oklahoma City, has been sentenced to 110 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition after a previous felony conviction. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

According to public records, on April 2, 2025, officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department attempted to stop a car near SE 15th and South Sunnylane Avenue. The driver did not stop, leading to a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, Jefferson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, threw a loaded magazine out of the window. Law enforcement later recovered this magazine. After stopping the vehicle, police arrested both the driver and Jefferson and seized a firearm that belonged to Jefferson.

A federal Grand Jury charged Jefferson on May 6, 2025, with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He pleaded guilty on August 5, 2025, admitting he possessed both items despite his prior felony convictions.

At the sentencing hearing held on December 9, 2025, U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton imposed a sentence of 110 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. The court highlighted “the danger Jefferson poses to the community and his extensive criminal history.”

Jefferson’s previous felony convictions include conspiracy to commit felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; possession of firearms after conviction; knowingly concealing stolen property (Jackson County District Court case number CF-2016-225); larceny from a person at night (Oklahoma County District Court case number CF-2014-8652); and second-degree burglary (Oklahoma County District Court case number CF-2013-6923).

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Oklahoma City Police Department investigated this case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laney Ellis prosecuted it. Ellis is an attorney for the City of Oklahoma City whose position is funded by Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which supports local efforts aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.

“PSN is a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone,” according to information provided in connection with this case.
