Kelly Justin Van Lewis, a 35-year-old resident of Coweta, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to two federal charges in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charges include one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country and one count of possession of ammunition while subject to a protective order.

According to the indictment, on April 30, 2024, Lewis assaulted a victim using a dangerous weapon. On July 2, 2025, he was found in possession of 990 rounds of assorted ammunition that had been shipped and transported across state lines. At the time, Lewis was under a court order restraining him from attempting, threatening, or committing domestic violence, stalking, or abuse against an intimate partner.

The incidents took place in Wagoner County within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Coweta Police Department.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Judge Snow also ordered a presentence investigation report.

A U.S. District Court Judge will determine Lewis’s sentence after reviewing federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. Lewis remains in custody with the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob R. Parker represented the government in this case.
