Join the State Historic Preservation Office for a free webinar on August 12 at noon, focusing on the Battle of Turkey Springs. Gerry Robinson will be the featured presenter.

The Battle of Turkey Springs in 1878 involved a group of Northern Cheyenne who resisted the U.S. Cavalry’s efforts to return them to their reservation near Fort Reno. This battle is recognized as the last armed conflict between the U.S. Army and American Indians in Oklahoma. The Turkey Springs Battlefield was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Gerry Robinson, an author, historian, and member of the Northern Cheyenne Nation, will present during the webinar. His historical novel “The Cheyenne Story: An Interpretation of Courage” won the 2019 Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Western Novel from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
