Paul Welch turned in the top performance for an Oklahoma City University runner Sunday in the Houston Half Marathon.
Welch, a senior out of Piedmont, Okla., paced all Stars putting together a time of 1 hour, 14 minutes, 15 seconds, finishing in 158th out of 12,781 participants in the 13.1-mile race. His average mile was 5:40. He finished strong, posting a 5:28 mile on the final leg of the race.
Tanner Huffman, a sophomore out of Choctaw, Okla., paced a time of 1:14:33. He placed 163rd. His average pace was 5:42 and his best pace at the 15K mark with a time of 5:30. The Stars' Anthony Carranza, a junior from Enid, Okla., completed the race in 1:15:37. His average pace was 5:47 with his best time after the 10K mark.
OCU's next official race is set for Jan. 21 at the NAIA JUCO Invitational.
