The Sod House Museum near Aline, Oklahoma, is marking a significant milestone as the state's only remaining sod house turns 130 years old. The celebration, organized by the Sod House Quilters, will feature Christmas trees adorned with quilt blocks such as log cabins, yo-yos, four patches, stars, and Christmas tree blocks. Seasonal decorations will also be displayed in the Sod House itself.
An event titled "A Quilter’s Christmas" open house is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, from 1-3 p.m. The Friends of the Sod House Museum will host the event with cookies and cider available for attendees along with door prizes. Visitors can participate in a raffle to win a queen-sized quilt themed "Chickadees and Trees," crafted by the Sod House Quilters. Raffle tickets are priced at $2 each or three for $5 and six for $10. Tickets can be purchased either by visiting the museum or calling 580-463-2441.
Entertainment during the open house will be provided by The Silver Strings and Friends musical group. They plan to perform a variety of music genres including folk, traditional Christmas music, gospel, country, and unusual instrumentals. Audience participation will be encouraged throughout their performance.
The museum is located southeast of Aline on State Highway 8 and operates from Tuesday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
