Fort Gibson Historic Site in Oklahoma is preparing for its annual gingerbread bake day. Scheduled for Saturday, December 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will be held at the commissary. Participants can enjoy baking gingerbread people using an 1860s military bake oven and decorating them with candies reminiscent of the 19th century.
Decorative items such as frosting, cherry licorice laces, spice drops, and candy wafers will be available. Each cookie costs $5, which includes access to all decoration supplies at the station. Kits are also available for purchase to take home, though they do not include frosting. The event operates on a first-come, first-served basis with fresh cookies baked every 30 minutes.
Admission to both the event and site is free on bake day. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Fort Gibson Historic Site and its new visitor center before or after participating in cookie decoration.
For additional details, interested parties can contact 918-478-4088. The visitor center is located at 803 N. Garrison Ave., while the commissary can be found at 907 N. Garrison Ave.
