Applications are now open for the Oklahoma Civil Rights Trail Grant Program, as announced by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The program invites tribal, county, and municipal governments along with not-for-profit organizations in Oklahoma to apply. These entities must be registered with the Oklahoma Secretary of State to qualify. The deadline for applications is February 15, and the grant awards will be disclosed in May.
The initiative aims to connect All-Black towns and sites pivotal to the Civil Rights Movement within Oklahoma, including numerous Native American locations of historical importance. Additionally, it seeks to boost tourism, encourage entrepreneurship, and promote economic development in these areas.
Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $50,000. The total funds available for distribution will depend on legislative appropriations, federal funding, and contributions made to the Oklahoma Civil Rights Trail revolving fund.
