On February 8, the Oklahoma Territorial Museum will feature a talk by Connie Cronley, the author of “A Life on Fire: Oklahoma’s Kate Barnard.” The event begins at 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase the book.

Kate Barnard was a significant figure in Oklahoma's history, known for being the first woman elected to statewide office during a period when women could not vote. She was recognized for her work in social reform, advocating for orphans, the mentally ill, prisoners, and impoverished communities. Additionally, she investigated misconduct related to American Indian properties in Osage County before federal authorities intervened.

Connie Cronley received recognition for her contributions to Oklahoma history with the E. E. Dale Award in 2022 from the Oklahoma Historical Society.

The program does not necessarily reflect the views of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

The museum hosting this event is located at 406 E. Oklahoma Ave., Guthrie. Interested individuals can obtain further information by calling 405-282-1889.

The Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library operate under the umbrella of the Oklahoma Historical Society, an organization established in 1893 dedicated to preserving and sharing Oklahoma's history and culture through various educational programs and exhibits across its museums and historic sites.
