The State Historic Preservation Office is organizing a free webinar on February 19 at noon. The session will focus on the Dawes Rolls and how they can be utilized for genealogical research. Laura Martin, who serves as the deputy director of the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division, will lead the presentation.

The Dawes Rolls were initially compiled between 1898 and 1907, with additional entries made from 1912 to 1914. These records document individuals who lived in Indian Territory and applied successfully to the Dawes Commission. They are an essential resource for tracing ancestry within the Five Tribes: Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek), and Seminole.

Interested participants can register online for this educational opportunity. For further details, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan is available at 405-522-4484 or via email at lynda.ozan@history.ok.gov.
