Matthew Mitchell has been appointed as the District 4 Engineer for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) as of February. His new role involves overseeing highway maintenance and construction activities across nine counties in north-central Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

Mitchell's career with ODOT began in 2009 when he joined as an inspector at the Stillwater Residency. In 2011, he joined the Oklahoma State University Roadway Design Squad while pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. After completing his studies, he moved to Perry to serve as the District 4 Bridge Engineer. By 2017, Mitchell transitioned to District 4 Maintenance Engineer and subsequently became the Stillwater Resident Engineer in 2018. In August 2020, he was promoted to District 4 Rural Construction Engineer and later became Local Government Division Engineer in 2023.

Mitchell holds Bachelor's degrees in Biological Sciences and Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer. He is affiliated with both the Oklahoma Association of County Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Notably, Mitchell received recognition for his work with a Pharoah Award in 2022 for SH-33 over Cottonwood Creek and a Director’s Safety Award in 2019.

He resides in Stillwater with his family.
