The Eagles, coming off a double-overtime win on Friday night, returned to the Nest to take on the 4-1 in-conference Dallas Baptist Patriots.
DBU started the game quickly, jumping to a 10-5 lead and forcing an OC timeout. The Eagles responded out of the timeout with five quick points to tie up the game at 10, on a three from Antonio Gordon, his second of the game.
The Patriots matched that and took an at one point 10-point lead before Oklahoma Christian fought to cut the lead down to five on a pair of free throws from Nyk Madison. DBU continued to try to separate themselves from the Eagles and took a 41-33 lead into the halftime break.
The Eagles were led at the half by Gordon with 13 points to go with 3 assists and Madison with 10 points.
Dallas Baptist came out of the break and extended their lead to 12 points with 13:04 remaining in the game. Fueled by 4 points from Karlyn Kenner and Gordon and a big three from freshman Shane Perales, the Eagles went on an 11-4 run to cut the 12-point lead down to three at 58-55 with 8:41 remaining.
After the under-eight media timeout, the Patriots jumped back out to a 7-point lead, but the Eagles kept chipping away. With a minute left, Kenner found Gordon on a fast break for an and-1 layup, and Antonio completed the and-1 to cut the DBU lead to 67-66.
On the next possession, Drew Tennial drew a charge, but Gordon missed a jumper, and OC and DBU got up for the rebound resulting in a jump ball giving DBU possession. But with 27 seconds remaining and no shot clock, OC forced a 10-second violation and got the ball back with 17 seconds to go.
Out of the timeout, D.J. Walter drove the baseline and made a reverse layup to give the Eagles a 68-67 with 8 seconds left, and the Eagles held on to win in comeback fashion.
"Today was a big time win for us. I told the guys after the game they deserved the wins this weekend because of how hard they have been working" head coach Kendre Talley said after the game. "Everyone stepped up over this holiday break and I am proud of the guys, my staff for the work they have put in, and thankful for the support from our fans"
The Eagles will hit the road with a two-game winning streak this week before returning to the Nest on January 12th.
