The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) showcased the state's agricultural contributions at the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) Annual Meeting held in Indianapolis. This event marked the conclusion of Blayne Arthur's tenure as NASDA president, a role she described as an honor.
"It was an honor to serve as NASDA’s president for the past year," said Arthur. "It’s been a great experience working alongside my fellow commissioners across the nation as we help support ag producers in their continued effort to feed, fuel, and clothe the world. I was also very glad we got the opportunity to showcase Oklahoma agriculture this week."
The meeting featured various elements highlighting Oklahoma's agricultural landscape. The Elgin, Okla. FFA Chapter commenced Monday's events, while Jolie Marshall from Harrah, Okla. FFA performed the National Anthem. Discussions on youth development and future agricultural prospects included Oklahoma 4-H Ambassador Erin Slagell. Additionally, Drew Daily from Oklahoma Forestry Services participated in a panel on emergency preparedness, and Dr. Brett Carver from Oklahoma State University contributed to discussions on agricultural research.
Joining Secretary Arthur were other members of the Oklahoma Board of Agriculture, including Brent Bolen from Idabel and Clay Burtrum from Stillwater.
"I feel blessed to call Oklahoma home, and I know our state has the best people and the best agriculture producers," said Arthur. "I hope representatives from across the country got a taste of Oklahoma agriculture and we look forward to those ag leaders visiting Oklahoma in the future."
The event concluded with Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward assuming NASDA presidential duties from Arthur, who will continue serving as Past President on NASDA's Board for another year.
NASDA is a nonpartisan association representing agriculture department leaders across all U.S. states and territories, focusing on enhancing food and agricultural communities through policy and public engagement efforts.
