On April 11 and 12, the Fort Gibson Historic Site will present a living history event focusing on the Mounted Rangers, who were active in the area from 1832 to 1833. Visitors will witness re-enactors demonstrate the life of these historical figures, highlighting their roles in ensuring security at frontier posts, engaging in peace talks, and supporting caravans. Demonstrations will show the weapons and equipment used, and explain travel and housing arrangements of the time.

Cmdr. Henry Dodge and Capt. Nathan Boone were notable leaders who directed the operations of the Mounted Rangers. This program is included in the regular admission charge and will take place in the fort's palisade area.

Additionally, on April 12, the site will celebrate its annual Spring Bake Day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors can expect fresh bread to be offered around noon and 3:30 p.m. Sampling is free, though donations are welcomed. Regular admission fees are waived for those visiting solely for bread and gift shop purchases.

The Fort Gibson Historic Site, a part of the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS), is located at 803 N. Garrison Ave. in Fort Gibson. The OHS works to preserve and share the heritage of Oklahoma since its founding in 1893 by the Territorial Press Association. For further details, contact 918-478-4088 or visit the society's website at www.okhistory.org.
