Visit Hunter’s Home in Park Hill, Oklahoma, for a unique 1850s Christmas experience from November 19 to December 13, and on December 15. The historic site is the only remaining pre-Civil War plantation home in the state.
During this period, visitors will find the home adorned with decorations reminiscent of an 1850s Christmas. In that era, Christmas celebrations were modest. Trees were often small branches set on tables, and decorations were homemade using paper or straw. People would string popcorn, cranberries, dried fruit rings, and beads as ornaments. Instead of traditional Christmas cards, handwritten notes were exchanged. Gifts were typically hand-sewn or handmade.
An open house event will take place on December 15 from noon to 8 p.m., featuring food available throughout the day and candlelight illuminating the home after dark. The house will maintain its period decorations with music playing all day long. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be present for photographs.
For further details, contact Hunter’s Home at 918-456-2751 or visit their website at okhistory.org/huntershome for admission prices. The address is 19479 E. Murrell Home Rd., Park Hill.
