The Fort Gibson Historic Site in Oklahoma is set to host its annual Christmas candlelight tours on Saturday, December 14. The event will begin at 6 p.m., offering visitors a glimpse into life during the 19th century through guided tours by candlelight.

Each tour will last approximately one hour and will be conducted in groups of up to ten people, departing every 20 minutes from the palisade. The final tour of the evening is scheduled for 8 p.m. Participants will start with a brief history of the site before exploring areas such as the palisade, mess hall, and dog trot. After viewing various skits, guests can enjoy refreshments including cookies and hot cider, with an opportunity to take photos with Santa. The tour concludes with a hayride back to the parking area.

Organizers have noted that while some parts of the tour may require walking over uneven ground, seating options along the path are limited. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as they are non-refundable but transferable for the same date and time. It is advised that guests arrive at least five minutes before their scheduled tour time since delays cannot be accommodated.

Tickets can be secured by calling 918-478-4088 or visiting the Fort Gibson Historic Site visitor center located at 803 N. Garrison Ave., Fort Gibson. Ticket sales close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 13.

The Fort Gibson Historic Site operates under the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS), which was established in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association. OHS's mission is "to collect, preserve and share" Oklahoma's history and culture through museums, historic sites, research archives, exhibits, educational programs, and publications across the state.
