The Oklahoma Transportation Commission's recent meeting on February 3 covered several key topics, including the impact of federal funding through a Continuing Resolution and the approval of significant infrastructure projects totaling $135 million.
Tim Gatz, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), briefed commissioners on the deposit of federal funds authorized through mid-March. This funding accounts for about 45 percent of ODOT's total federal fiscal year appropriations. Gatz explained that this situation is typical in the appropriations process and is not linked to any executive orders from the Trump administration. He stated, "Our contracts that are regular formula funds and previously authorized grant funds are proceeding. Reimbursements are on schedule and on track."
During the meeting, ODOT received recognition from the Association of Oklahoma General Contractors with a statewide award. The District 4 Yukon Residency was honored with the 2024 Pharaoh Award for its work on the US-281/Route 66 Bridgeport “Pony” Bridge in Canadian County. This project was completed ahead of the 2026 Route 66 Centennial Celebration.
Commissioners approved several new projects, including a $36 million initiative to widen US-177 between Langston in Logan County and US-177 in Payne County. Additionally, resurfacing projects were approved for I-35 and US-69, costing $16 million and nearly $30 million respectively.
The nine-member commission oversees state transportation development and awards contracts monthly for road and bridge construction. In this session, they awarded 35 contracts amounting to nearly $135 million for improvements across interstates, highways, and bridges.
The next commission meeting is scheduled for March 3 at 11 a.m., available to view live online.
