Author Michael J. Hightower will present his latest book, “Justice for All: Dick T. Morgan, Frontier Lawyer & Common Man’s Congressman,” at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid, Oklahoma, on February 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will also feature David Morgan, a great-grandson of the book's subject, Dick T. Morgan.
The book details the life and contributions of Dick T. Morgan, who was prominent for his work in land disputes during the late 1800s and played a significant role in real estate development and church-building in Oklahoma Territory. As an Oklahoma Congressman from 1909 until his death in 1920, Morgan was instrumental in establishing the Federal Reserve System, Federal Trade Commission, and Federal Farm Credit System.
David and Kenyon Morgan, descendants of Dick T. Morgan, collaborated closely with Hightower on research for the book. They provided insights into important locations connected to their ancestor's legacy.
Hightower is an author with deep roots in Oklahoma and holds a doctorate in sociology. He resides between Oklahoma City and Charlottesville, Virginia. The foreword of “Justice for All” is penned by Dr. Bob Blackburn, former executive director of the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS). Proceeds from the book sales will benefit the Friends of the Oklahoma History Center.
The signing event will take place at Humphrey Heritage Village's 1902 church within the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center premises. Admission to the event is included with paid entry to the center.
The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center operates under OHS, which aims to preserve and share Oklahoma's history and culture through its museums and programs statewide.
