Author Michael J. Hightower will host a book discussion and signing at the Oklahoma History Center on Wednesday, February 26, at 5:30 p.m. The event will focus on his latest work, "Justice for All: Dick T. Morgan, Frontier Lawyer & Common Man’s Congressman." David and Kenyon Morgan, great-grandsons of Dick T. Morgan, will also be present to speak briefly and sign copies of the book.
Hightower's book details the life of Dick T. Morgan, a key figure in Oklahoma's history from 1889 until his death in 1920. Known for his contributions to legal guidance for settlers through his publication "Morgan’s Manual to Homestead Laws," which sold 20,000 copies, Morgan played an influential role in shaping land ownership policies during a pivotal time.
Morgan was instrumental beyond state lines as well; he was the first U.S. Representative elected after statehood representing Oklahoma City and its surrounding areas. His efforts contributed to establishing significant federal systems such as the Federal Reserve System, Federal Trade Commission, and Federal Farm Credit System.
David and Kenyon Morgan have a personal connection to this history. Their exploration into their great-grandfather's legacy took them across Oklahoma and beyond to Indiana and Washington D.C., piecing together historical insights that have been long overlooked.
The event is open to the public with no registration required. Copies of "Justice for All" will be available for purchase at the Museum Store located within the Oklahoma History Center at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr., Oklahoma City.
