On March 15, Honey Springs Battlefield will host a nature journaling workshop led by artist Jim Mullenax from Rocky Pond Pen and Ink. The event is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon and aims to teach participants the value of creating a nature journal.

The class encourages attendees to engage with their surroundings through simple sketches in a journal, fostering curiosity and creativity. Participants will be prompted with questions such as “What do I notice?” or “What do I wonder?”

This family-friendly workshop is included with the regular admission fee. After the session, visitors can explore exhibits and watch a film at the visitor center. The site also features six walking trails with interpretive signs.

For further details, interested individuals can contact 918-617-7125 or email honeysprings@history.ok.gov.

Honey Springs Battlefield is situated east of US Highway 69 between Oktaha and Rentiesville. The Visitor Center is located near the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame in Rentiesville.

The battlefield is part of the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS), which was established in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association. OHS's mission is to collect, preserve, and share Oklahoma's history and culture through its museums, historic sites, research archives, exhibits, educational programs, and publications.
