The Oklahoma Historical Society is set to commemorate the centennial of the state's flag on April 2. The event will take place at 3 p.m. at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City, marking 100 years since the flag's adoption on April 2, 1925.

Designed by artist Louise Fluke, who won a contest organized by the Oklahoma Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the flag features an Osage war shield against a blue background. It includes an olive branch and calumet across the shield with seven eagle feathers along its bottom edge.

The program will feature speeches from Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear of the Osage Nation, Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, and OHS Executive Director Trait Thompson. Representatives from both the Oklahoma Society Daughters of the American Revolution and Centenarians of Oklahoma will also participate. Additionally, students from Oklahoma City University are scheduled to perform.

Attendees can view a small exhibit showcasing items related to the flag from OHS collections. Refreshments including cake will be available, and admission to the museum will be free between 2:30-5 p.m.

Open to all without registration, this event is partly sponsored by the Oklahoma Society Daughters of the American Revolution's Oklahoma City Chapter in memory of Josephine Sperry Hickam. Hickam served as an Oklahoma State Regent from 1925 to 1929 and was an Oklahoma City Chapter Regent from 1919 to 1924.
