The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) in Oklahoma City is set to host a free webinar on Tuesday, January 21, at noon. The event will focus on the new 10-year state plan, which was made public on January 1. During the webinar, SHPO staff will outline the main points of the state plan and discuss ways individuals can contribute to preservation efforts within their communities.

The creation of this 10-year state plan began in July 2023 with an initial questionnaire distributed by SHPO as part of an update process mandated by the National Park Service. A follow-up questionnaire was conducted both in person in mid-September 2023 and online in October 2023 to explore responses further. Feedback from these questionnaires, along with input from a special survey for tribal partners, informed the first draft of the plan. This draft was open for public comment until March 29, 2024. After reviewing feedback from both the public and National Park Service personnel, the finalized state plan was released at the start of this year.

The SHPO expressed gratitude to all who contributed their insights during this process.

Those interested in attending can register for the webinar online. For additional details, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan can be contacted at 405-522-4484 or via email at lynda.ozan@history.ok.gov.
