Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Lynda Ozan has announced the presentation of an Oklahoma Centennial Farm award and a Historic Structures Award to the owners of a farm in Caddo County. The recipients are Leon and Lois Matlock, Debra Matlock, and Jess and LaTisha Matlock, who own Matlock Farms near Anadarko.
The family has maintained their farming operations on this land since 1906 when it was first settled by William Henry Harmon. Their activities include growing wheat, hay, grass, and raising cattle.
Eligibility for the Centennial Farm or Ranch Award requires that a property be occupied by a family member for at least 100 years. It must also currently be operated or occupied by a family member or leased out by one. Additionally, the property should consist of at least 40 acres with gross annual sales of no less than $1,000.
This recognition is part of a program sponsored by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Over its 36-year history, 36 awards have been presented in Caddo County.
