The Oklahoma History Center Museum in Oklahoma City will close its exhibit "Launch to Landing: Oklahomans and Space" on March 31. The exhibit, which opened in November 2020, highlights Oklahoma's contributions to aviation and space exploration.

Developed with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the Cosmosphere, the exhibit showcases the roles of pioneering Oklahomans in the U.S. air and space program. A key feature is the Skylab 4 Apollo Command Module (CM-118), known for its record-breaking 84-day mission from November 16, 1973, to February 8, 1974.

Visitors can also view items related to Oklahoma aviators and the U.S. space program, including flags flown in space, a NASA Mission Control console, shuttle heat shield tiles, and lunar samples.

With its closure approaching, the museum encourages visitors to experience "Launch to Landing" before it ends. The museum is planning a new exhibit for mid-2026 to coincide with Route 66's centennial.

The exhibit was supported by several foundations and individuals including the E.L. and Thelma Gaylord Foundation, M.D. Jirous and Barbara Jirous Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, Records-Johnston Family Foundation Inc., Bob Ford, James C. and Teresa K. Day Foundation, Friends of the Oklahoma History Center, National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Cosmosphere in Hutchinson Kansas, Thomas P. Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford Bill Moore Cameron Eagle Ink Ranch.

Located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr., the museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on admission costs or group rates call 405-522-0765 or visit www.okhistory.org/historycenter.
